Stock Markets Today: Closing Bell! Banks take a hit on Tuesday as Sensex, Nifty end flat; ICICI Bank, PNB among BIGGEST Losers; check how SBI shares performed

The stock markets today ended the day almost flat albeit minor fall. While the BSE Sensex closed at 51,934.88, down by just over 2 points, the broader market NSE Nifty 50 was trading 15,574.85 at the closing time on Tuesday, down by just under 8 points.

In the 30 share BSE Sensex, 13 stocks were trading in the green at the end of Tuesday’s trading session while the remaining 17 were trading in the red. The top five gainers on Thursday at close were ONGC, Bajaj Finance, SBI, HDFC and Bajaj Auto while the top 5 losers were ICICI Bank, Ultratech Cement Company, Asian Paints, ITC and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Meanwhile in the 50-share NSE Nifty 50, at the closing time 19 shares advanced while remaining 31 declined. Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, ONGC, SBI and HDFC were the top 5 gainers. The top 5 losers in the day’s trade were JSW Steel, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Asian Paints and Ultratech Cement Company.

Nifty Midcap 50 and Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services ended the day in the red.

Nifty Indices

• Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Bank was down by over 0.5 per cent on Tuesday at 35,337.20. SBI was the biggest gainer while 10 stocks ended in the red.
• Nifty Auto ended down 0.3 per cent at 10,457.85.
• State-run banks suffered as Nifty PSU Bank ended down 0.6 per cent on Tuesday at 2412.45. 11 stocks declines while two including SBI advanced.
• Nifty IT, Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma ended with positive bias while Nifty FMCG and Nifty Metal ended in the red. 

The USD was trading strong against the INR today on the BSE at 4 pm. The USDINR futures were trading at 73.1625 going UP by almost 0.4 per cent.
