Stock Markets Today: After achieving their lifetime highs on Monday, the stock markets today ended slightly lower on Tuesday. The BSE Sensex closed at 52,275.57, down by 0.1 per cent or 53 points. Meanwhile, the broader market NSE Nifty 50 closed at 15,740.10, going down by just over 11 points.

In the 30 share BSE Sensex, 14 stocks were trading in the green at the end of Tuesday’s trading session while the remaining 16 were trading in the red. The top five gainers on Tuesday at close were Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, HCL Technologies and Titan while the top 5 losers were SBI, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank and Powergrid. 

Meanwhile in the 50-share NSE Nifty 50, at the closing time 27 shares advanced while remaining 22 declined and 1 stock remained unchanged. Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, IOC and HCL Technologies were the top 5 gainers. The top 5 losers in the day’s trade were Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank and HDFC. 

Nifty Midcap 50 and Nifty Next 50 ended in the green while Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services ended the day in the red. 

Nifty Indices

  • Among the sectoral indices, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Bank and Nifty Metals were the biggest losers, dropping by over 1 per cent each, on Tuesday. While Nifty Bank ended at 35,085.30, Nifty Metal settled at 5,258.90. Nifty PSU Bank ended at 2,464.50.  
  • Nifty Auto ended up 0.6 per cent at 10,873.90.

Nifty FMCG, Nifty IT and Nifty Pharma ended the day in the green, going up by 0.84 per cent, 0.86 per cent and 1.20 per cent respectively. 

Today, the USDINR futures were trading at 73.0450 on the BSE against the USD at 4 pm going up by 0.1 per cent.
