Stock Markets CLOSING BELL! Sensex, Nifty fall over 0.5%; Nifty Bank, Metal, IT stocks fall; Nifty Auto gains - Important points investors should know

The stock markets today ended the day in the red as both the BSE Sensex and the broader market NSE Nifty 50 fell by over 0.5 per cent. While the Sensex ended at 52,306.08 on Wednesday, going down by almost 282 points, the Nifty 50 ended at 15,686.95, down by over 85 points.  

In the 30 share BSE Sensex, 8 stocks were trading in the green at the end of Wednesday’s trading session while the remaining 22 stocks were trading in the red at the closing time. The top 5 gainers on Wednesday at close were Maruti Suzuki, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra and Ultratech Cement Company while the top 5 losers were Larsen & Toubro, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Steel, HDFC and TCS.

Meanwhile in the 50-share NSE Nifty 50, at the closing time 16 shares advanced while the remaining 34 declined. Maruti Suzuki, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra and ONGC were the top 5 gainers on Wednesday. The top 5 losers in the day’s trade were Adani Ports, Wipro, Divis Lab, Shree Cement and JSW Steel.  

Major indices including Nifty Midcap 50, Nifty Next 50, Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services ended the day in the red.      

Nifty Indices    

1. Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Bank ended 0.4 per cent down at 34,574    
2. Nifty auto was up 0.5 per cent at 10,588.50   
3. Nifty Realty was also down by over 0.4 per cent and ended at 348.20.   
4. Nifty PSU Bank ended at 2,477.50, almost flat from the Tuesday closing.  
5. Nifty Metal, Nifty Pharma, Nifty IT, Nifty FMCG and Nifty Media ended in the red on Wednesday.     

Today, the USDINR futures were trading at 74.2875 on the BSE against the USD at 3:50 pm going down by 0.10 per cent.
