Sensex, Nifty set to open in red; GIFT Nifty futures fall over 50 pts

Share Market Today, NSE Nifty 50, BSE Sensex: Headline indices Sensex and Nifty will likely start today's (October 16) session in a negative territory. At around 7:20 am, GIFT Nifty futures, an early indicator of the 50-share index, were down 81.85 points or 0.33 per cent at 25,036 ahead of the opening bell on Dalal Street.

Global Markets; Wall Street ends lower, Asian stocks mixed

US stock markets closed lower amid selling in technology sector stocks. The major indices, including Nasdaq and S&P 500 ended in the red zone. While Asian markets stock showed mixed performance.

Here's how the major global indices fared:

• Nasdaq ended at 18,315.59, down 187.10 points or 1.01 per cent
• S&P 500 down up 44.59 points or 0.76 per cent at 5,815.26
• Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 721.65 points or 1.81 per cent at 39,188.90
• South Korea's KOSPI down 18.81 points or 0.71 per cent at 2,614.64
• Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 137.06 points or 0.67 cent at 20,455.85
• Singapore's Strait Times up 14.13 points or 0.39 per cent at  3,609.60

Previous session summary

In the last session (October 15) both domestic indexes ended lower, Sensex closed at 81,820.12, down 152.93 pts or 0.19 per cent and the 50-share index (Nifty 50) closed at 25,057.35, down 70.60 pts or 0.28 per cent amid buying selling pressure in energy and auto sector stocks such as Reliance, and Bajaj Auto.
