Amid volatility, the Indian markets ended in the green for the third straight session on Tuesday. The domestic equity market after opening flat with positive bias kept trading in the narrow range of 0.25% through the day. The broader Nifty managed to remain above 17,800, while the Sensex gained over 200 points in the closing Domestic equity benchmarks Nifty50 and the S&P BSE Sensex settle at 18,055.75 and 60,616.89 on Tuesday.

The indices were supported by IT shares as HCL Tech surged as much as four per cent ahead of Q3FY22 results. Adani Ports, HDFC Limited, ONGC, Divis Labs, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Sun Pharma, Reliance Industries Limited, HDFC Bank were among the lead gainers on Tuesday.

Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Bank, ITC, Asian Paints, Dr Reddy's, BPCL, Coal India and Hindalco declined on the two indices.  

The 12-share Nifty Bank too ended positive as the banking index closed near 38,500.  

In broader market, except for Nifty Small Cap, all indices ended positive on Tuesday. Sectorally, auto, FMCG, metal pharma and PSU Bank remained under pressure as broader Nifty held on to 17,800-level in a volatile market.  

Meanwhile, shares of Paytm and Vodafone Idea hogged the limelight on Tuesday as the former hit new 52-week low and the latter saw government taking majority stake in the telecom company.
