Share Market Closing Bell! Sensex, Nifty end flat with positive bias - Bharti Airtel slumps most; Britannia, Tata Consumers top gainers
The Indian markets on Thursday ended near flatline with positive bias, as Sensex after hovering around 56000 levels, ended 5 points higher, while Nifty above 16600 level at the market close.

The BSE Sensex grew marginally by 5 points or 0.01 per cent to 55,949, while Nifty50 too ended with minor gains by 2.25 points or 0.01 per cent to 16,636.9 levels at the market close on Thursday. While the mid-cap index outperformed benchmarks to end 53 points or 0.19 per cent higher to 27416.

Nifty Bank somehow kept the Nifty in the green, with the index ended marginally higher by over 31 points or 0.09 per cent to 35617.5 levels.
Out of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 21 advanced, 29 declined at the market close on Thursday. Fast-moving consumer goods stocks such as Britannia, Tata Consumers jumped most at the close by around 2.5 per cent, followed by HDFC Life, BPCL, Mahindra and Mahindra and Reliance Industries
On the contrary, telecom stock Bharti Airtel became the biggest laggard at the close today by 4.5 per cent, it was also the weakest stock to open, as the company announced fundraising plan. Other stocks such as JSW Steel, Maruti, SBI, Hindalco also contributed most for the markets fall at close today.
Except for FMCG, private banks, financial services and realty indices ended in the green, whereas all the sectoral indices closed in the red on Thursday. Nifty FMCG surged most by 0.6 per cent and helped market from further decline, while Nifty Metal slumped most by over 1 per cent at close.
