Sensex, Nifty likely to open positive; GIFT Nifty futures inch higher

Stock Market, NSE Nifty, BSE Sensex, Global Markets; US Stocks, Asian Stocks: Headline indices Sensex and Nifty will likely start today's (October 1) session in a positive zone. At around 7:10 am, GIFT Nifty futures, an early indicator of the 50-share index, were up 10.35 points or 0.21 per cent at 26,000.50 ahead of the opening bell on Dalal Street.

• Nasdaq ended at 18,189.17, up 69.58 points or 0.38 per cent
• S&P 500 up 24.31 points or 0.42 per cent at 5,762.48
• Japan's Nikkei 225 was up 678.75 points or 1.76 per cent at 38,598.30

Previous session summary

In the last session of the previous month (September 25) both domestic indexes ended lower amid selling pressure in financial and energy sector stocks, Sensex down 1272.07 pts or 1.49 per cent at 84,299.78 and the 50-share index (NSE Nifty50) closed at 25,810.85, down 368.10 pts or 1.41 per cent.
