FINAL TRADE: Sensex ends volatile day down 68 points, Nifty slips below 19,750

Stock market today: Indian equity benchmarks closed a volatile session with minor losses on Tuesday, August 1.

Both headline indices declined 0.1 per cent for the day. The Sensex lost 68.4 points to end at 66,459.3 and the Nifty settled at 19,733.6, down 20.3 points from its previous close.

As many as 26 stocks in the 50-blue-chip basket traded below the flatline. Coal India, NTPC, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, and LTIMindtree were the top gainers, trading with gains of between 5 per cent and 1.7 per cent. On the other hand, PowerGrid, Hero MotoCorp, Apollo Hospitals, Adani Ports and Bajaj Finserv were the top laggards in the Nifty basket. NTPC, Tech Mahindra and HCL Tech were the major gainers on BSE.

Sectoral watch

Nifty Bank ended over 0.13 per cent lower at 45,592.5. Meanwhile, Nifty FMCG, Financial Services, Auto and Realty ended in red.

Buzzing stocks

Power Grid stock fell over 5 per cent post results.

Hero MotoCorp closed over 3 per cent lower after Enforcement Directorate raided the residence of Hero MotoCorp chairman Pawan Munjal.

Apollo Hospitals shares settled nearly 3 per cent lower.

Adani Ports shares closed over 1 per cent lower.

Conversely, Veranda Learning shares ended over 17 per cent higher.

Kirloskar Brothers shares closed over 9 per cent higher post results.

Navin Fluorine stock settled over 6 per cent higher post results.

Bandhan Bank shares ended nearly 2 per cent higher post results.
