The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have revised the expiry schedules for several derivatives contracts. The new expiry days will come into effect from January 1, 2025, as per circulars issued by the exchanges.

Here are the details of the revised days:

  • Monthly contracts for FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY, and NIFTYNXT50 will now expire on the last Thursday of the expiry month.
  • BANKNIFTY's monthly and quarterly contracts will also expire on the last Thursday of the expiry month, instead of the last Wednesday.

Previously, the expiry days for FINNIFTY, MIDCPNIFTY, and NIFTYNXT50 contracts were scattered across the week, with contracts expiring on Tuesday, Monday, and Friday, respectively.

The circular clarified that there would be no changes to the expiry days for NIFTY's monthly, weekly, quarterly, and half-yearly contracts.

BSE's Revised Expiry Framework

The BSE has also changed its derivatives expiry calendar, here's the details:

  • Weekly contracts for Sensex will now expire on Tuesday instead of Friday
  • All monthly contracts for Sensex, Bankex, and Sensex 50 will shift to expiring on the last Tuesday of the month, replacing the current expiry days of the last Friday, last Monday, and last Thursday, respectively
  • Quarterly and semi-annual contracts of Sensex will now expire on Tuesday of the expiry month, instead of the last Friday
