A significant correction has already happened in the stock markets, he opined.
According to Sonthalia, investors can invest in the real estate sector either in the form of equities or physical assets. The real estate sector has been coming into the upcycle after 4 to 5 years, and it is a good time to invest in it.
For the new investors, Sonthalia said that the Russia Ukraine crisis is further expected to correct the markets to up to 5-7 per cent. But the market has an upside potential of 15-20 per cent.
Four Sectors For New Investors
Despite the rise in oil prices, the market has stayed stable. This is a good sign. He further suggested four sectors which are expected to give good returns in the next 3-5 years.
Sonthalia suggested that the banking sector was a good option. He said that in banking stocks, big bank stocks have a 25-30 per cent upside potential in the next 2-3 years. BFSI stocks, according to him, offer a good investment opportunity at the moment.
The Associate Director further suggested that the technology sector is a source of good profits. He said that the value of the Indian Rupee is expected to fall in the coming days. This would support the high-end valuation of big tech firms in India.
He also bets on pharma stocks. He said that pharma products are price inelastic and thus offer a stable source of a good return on investment.
Auto stocks auto components companies also offer attractive returns, he further added.
Focus on multi-cap funds
Also, he said that investors must focus on hybrid funds and multi-cap funds for an assured return. Small-cap funds, according to him, will not give good returns as compared to the last 2-3 years.
