Sensex, Nifty set to open in red; GIFT Nifty futures down over 250 pts

Stock Market, NSE Nifty 50, BSE Sensex, Global Markets; US Stocks, Asian Stocks: Headline indices Sensex and Nifty will likely start today's (October 3) session in a negative zone. At around 7:40 am, GIFT Nifty futures, an early indicator of the 50-share index, were down 261 points or 1.01 per cent at 25,708 ahead of the opening bell on Dalal Street.

• Nasdaq ended at 17,925.12, up 14.76 points or 0.08 per cent
• S&P 500 up 0.79 points or 0.01 per cent at 5,709.54
• Japan's Nikkei 225 was up 809.70 points or 2.14 per cent at 38,618.46
• Hong Kong's Hang Seng up 40.31 points or 0.18 per cent at 2,484.04

In the last session (October 1) both domestic indexes ended lower amid selling in energy and consumer durables sector stocks, Sensex down 33.49 pts or 0.04 per cent at 84,266.29 and the 50-share index (NSE Nifty50) closed at 25,796.90, down 13.95 pts or 0.05 per cent.
