Market Outlook 2023: Markets will remain flat this year until there are some big unforeseen developments around the world, Raamdeo Agrawal, Chairman & Co-Founder, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd said in his outlook of how global as well as Indian markets will perform in 2023. Bullish on D-Street's prospects, he said that the next 40 years of the Indian market will be more exciting than the past 40 years.
Going by prevalent sitautions, he expected the global markets to be flat. “Global markets will be flat, as the situation will sink in this year,” he said, and added that this year will be the year for consolidation for global markets and the performance of the Indian market will depend upon its earnings.

Outlook on China
Talking about China’s Covid-19 restrictions being lifted, he said that if there is a slowdown in the US and European markets, then it will affect the exports of China.
“As China exports to US and Europe and if the demand there is less, then it will affect the Chinese exports,” he opined.
And added that the slowdown can affect all the exporting countries including India, and if the slowdown continues for a year then India will become a big market for international countries as India has a high consumption rate. This will further widen the gap between county’s imports and exports.

Outlook on Economy
According to the Motilal Oswal co-founder, all eyes will be on Budget 2023 and on whether the government will boost the consumption base of middle and lower classes.
Outlook on Retail Investors
Stating that the returns from stock markets were less than previous years — only 5 per cent — yet the retail investors have not lost hope.
He added that the Fixed Income market is looking good but retail investors have not yet switched, but if this situation persists then there are chances of them switching over.
He suggested that if retail investors stay invested then it can help them make money in case big events boost the markets.
Outlook on IT Sector
Taking the Information Technology Sector into consideration, Motilal Oswal's chairman said that investors are inclining towards the Financial sectors, which means that they are investing in banking stocks. He added that IT stocks will soon come to a reasonable valuation and will again attract the investors.
Outlook on Real Estate
Agarwal said that there is a lot of scope in the real estate segment for the companies to scale up and it also has a lot of potention for good investment returns.
Advice for young investors
Stating that intraday trading is not everyone’s cup of tea, he advised young investors to stay invested and they will eventually get returns.
