In the upcoming year, markets will observe 14 trading holidays, a slight reduction from the 16 in 2024. Key trading holidays include:

  • Mahashivratri on February 26
  • Good Friday on March 28
  • Independence Day on August 15

Notably, several holidays will fall on weekends in 2025, such as Republic Day (January 26), Shri Ram Navami (April 6), and Muharram (July 6). This means traders will see fewer midweek breaks.

Market performance on December 24

On the last trading day before the Christmas holiday, domestic indices displayed a positive sentiment. The Sensex rose by 167 points, or 0.22 per cent, to reach 78,714, while the Nifty50 gained 53 points, or 0.22 per cent, to trade at 23,806.50 around noon.

Among sectoral performers, indices such as Nifty Auto, FMCG, IT, Pharma, and Realty were in the green, reflecting strong investor interest. However, Nifty Bank, Media, and Metal sectors faced selling pressure.

Key stocks in focus

Tata Group stocks remained a highlight, with Tata Investment Corporation surging 10 per cent. Meanwhile, Tata Motors led the Nifty50, gaining nearly 5 per cent on robust investor optimism surrounding the group’s mega Rs 15,000 crore IPO plans for Tata Capital.
