Gudi Padwa Holiday 2023: The currency market remained closed on Wednesday, March 23 for the Gudi Padwa holiday. The Indian rupee declined by six paise to settle at 82.62 against the US dollar on Tuesday amid a strengthening dollar overseas and mixed global cues. India's currency market will resume trading at 9 am on March 23, Thursday.
Gudi Pawda — also known as Samvatsar Padvo — is celebrated with enthusiasm in Maharashtra and Goa. Gudi Padwa marks the first day of the Maharashtra calendar, and is celebrated by Maharashtrians and Konkanis. According to Luni-Solar calendars, the positions of the Moon and the Sun are used to divide the year into months and days.
