FIRST TRADE: Indices edge marginally higher; Sensex up nearly 50 pts; Nifty above 19,400 mark
Stock market today: Last seen, both indices were up over 0.10 per cent. The S&P BSE Sensex was up 63.88 points at 65,283.74, and the NSE Nifty was up 21.75 points at 19,416.95.
Stock market today: The domestic equity indices edged marginally higher during the opening deals on Wednesday, August 23, after ending flat in the previous session as the market participants awaited the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) policy meeting minutes and updates from key global central bankers' gathering. Buying was seen in IT and metal stocks.
Last seen, both indices were up over 0.10 per cent. The S&P BSE Sensex was up 63.88 points at 65,283.74, and the NSE Nifty was up 21.75 points at 19,416.95.
In the broader market, the Nifty Mid Cap 100 and Small Cap 100 were up nearly half a per cent.
At the time of filing this report, Nifty Bank was trading in the red at 43,985.5.
BUZZING STOCKS
Vodafone Idea shares were up nearly 2 per cent as the company announced plans to clear about Rs 2,400 crore of dues to the government by September.
Eros International's stock was up over 1 per cent after the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) on Tuesday rejected the appeals of Eros International Media Ltd, its Managing Director Sunil Arjan Lulla, and Chief Executive Officer Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi that challenged Sebi's order restraining them from the capital market in a fund diversion case.
Liberty Shoes shares climbed over 2 per cent after Crisil Ratings said in a report that softening input costs and rising demand will help the footwear industry record an 11 per cent growth in revenue this fiscal.
BEML shares were up over 2 per cent as the company bagged an order worth Rs 101 crore from the Ministry of Defense.
RITES stock rose over 1 per cent after the company was declared an L-1 bidder for an order value of Rs 65.4 crore by the Railway Board.
Linde India's shares traded over 4 per cent higher as the company got a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for an order from Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
BCL Industries stock climbed over 2 per cent after the ethanol price hike.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy shares were up over 1 per cent after a stake sale by promoter Khurshed Yazdi Daruvala.
Hindalco shares rose over 1 per cent on the back of plans to invest Rs 4,000 crore in extrusion, copper, and e-waste recycling facilities.
L&T shares were up over 1 per cent after Morgan Stanley maintained a 'buy' and raised the target.
Polycab shares were up over 1 per cent after Morgan Stanley maintained an 'overweight' rating on the stock and raised the target.
Colgate-Palmolive was up over 2 per cent after Nomura maintained a 'Neutral' rating and raised the target.
Conversely, Brightcom Group shares hovered near their lower circuit of 5 per cent on the BSE after SEBI released another interim order against Shankar Sharma and 25 others.
Jio Financial Services stock hit the lower circuit for the third consecutive session.
Angel One shares declined over 1 per cent after SEBI issued a warning to the company in case of negligence in client verification.
