Stock market today, May 30, 2023: The benchmark indices ended in positive territory on May 30, Tuesday. At close, the S&P BSE Sensex ended at 62,969.13, up 123 points, or 0.20 per cent while the NSE's Nifty ended at 18,634, up 35 points, or 0.19 per cent.

"The Nifty witnessed a day of consolidation today and managed to close the day on a positive note, up 35 points. The uptrend is intact, and this consolidation shall provide an opportunity for initiating fresh long positions. In terms of levels, 18705 – 18735 shall act as the immediate hurdle zone while 18570 – 18500 is the crucial support zone from a short-term perspective, said Jatin Gedia, Technical Research Analyst, Sharekhan by BNP Paribas.

In the broader market, Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices settled higher. On the sectoral front, Nifty Bank settled at a record high for the second straight session. The index gained 0.28 per cent to end at 44,436.35 points.

In Tuesday's trading session, ITC settled as the top gainer on NSE. Monte Carlo Fashions, Aurobindo Pharma and RBL Bank shares rallied in trade. Most cement stocks also ended higher on the back of reports of price hikes. JK Cement surged to a 52-week high on positive management commentary.

Conversely, Apollo Hospitals shares ended lower after posting weak Q4 earnings.

Global Market 

In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong ended in the green. The US markets were closed on Monday for Memorial Day. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers on Monday as they bought equities worth Rs 1,758.16 crore, according to exchange data. Meanwhile, global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 2.30 per cent to $75.30 a barrel.
