In an attempt to give relief to domestic companies, the central government has halted the investigation of PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) suspension grade resin that is imported from Japan, informed Zee Business Managing Editor Anil Singhvi on Monday.

Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), which falls under the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, has issued a notification to stop the PVC resin imported from Japan after complaints from companies such as DCW, DCM Shriram, Finolex Industries among others.

Speaking about the notification, Chetan Bhutani of Zee Business said these probes have been happening from September 2020 and impacting the domestic companies to get PVC resin, which acts as a raw material in specialty chemical and pipe manufacturing.

He adds, the import of PVC resin was possible after the India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership in 2017 between two governments. DCW and DCM Shriram was the primary complaint and the probe was on the huge amount of import of PVC resin from Japan.

PVC is a versatile material that offers many possible applications, these include; window frames, drainage pipe, water service pipe, medical devices, blood storage bags, cable and wire insulation, resilient flooring, roofing membranes, stationery among others.

On the back of this news, DCW shares jumped over 8 per cent to Rs 41.4 per share, while DCM Shriram Limited shares grew over 3.5 per cent to Rs 987.85 per share on the BSE intraday trade, as compared to a 0.2 per cent rise in the S&P BSE Sensex on Monday.
