Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga has bagged second gold for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022, taking India's medal tally to five overall so far.  The 2018 Youth Olympic champion dominated the men's 67kg competition with a total lift of 300kg (140kg+160kg), finishing ahead of Samoa's Vaipava Nevo Ioane, who managed a total of 293kg (127kg +166kg).
Nigeria's Edidiong Joseph Umoafia took bronze with an effort of 290kg (130kg+160kg).

Earlier, Mirabai Chanu created history by clinching first gold medal for India in the women`s 49 kg weightlifting event on the second day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Saturday. Besides, Sanket Sargar and Bindyarani Devi won silver in the in the men and women 55kg weightlifting events on Saturday, while Gururaja Poojary secured Bronze in Men's 61kg weightlifting category. All medals so far have come from weightlifting events. Sanket Sargar has secured first medal for India in Birmingham CWG 2022.   

Son of a national-level boxer Lalneihtluanga, Lalrinnunga also aspired to don the gloves but shifted to weightlifting as it involved just power to excel, something he found fascinating.
