The Indian markets registered a record high closing for the second straight session on Tuesday, as the BSE Sensex gained over 650 points and Nifty50 above 17100 levels, led by metal and pharma stocks.

The BSE Sensex gained over 662 points or 1.16 per cent to 57552.39, while Nifty50 surged over 201 points or 1.19 per cent to 17.132 levels at the market close on Tuesday. While the mid-cap index also joined the gaining streak and closed at 175 points or 0.62 per cent higher to 28417 levels today.

While Nifty Bank also joined the winning party with other indices aiding Nifty50 surge, as the banking index jumped over 76 points or 0.2 per cent higher 36,424 levels, mainly led by Kotak Bank.         

Out of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 42 advanced, 8 declined at the market close on Tuesday. Bharti Airtel's share for the second straight session ended as top index gainer on Tuesday, surging by around 7 per cent, followed by Bajaj Finance up 5%, while Hindalco, Eicher Motors, and Shree Cement each grew by 4 per cent at the market close.

On the contrary, Tata Motors became the top laggard in the life high market, declining by around 1.5 per cent, followed by Nestle India and IndusInd Bank each down by over 1 per cent, while Reliance Industries and BPCL slumped marginally by 0.5 and 0.2 per cent respectively at the close today. 

Almost all the sectoral indices closed in the green, except for the Nifty Media, which went down 0.12 per cent at the market close. Nifty Meta surged most by over 1.5 per cent, followed by Nifty IT and Financial Services each grew by 1.3 per cent at the market close on Tuesday.
