The Indian markets on Monday ended at the all-time high, as Sensex closed over 750 points and Nifty above 16900 levels, led by metal, pharma, auto and banking & financial services stocks.

The BSE Sensex gained over 765 points or 1.36 per cent to 56,890, while Nifty50 surged over 225 points or 1.35 per cent to 16,931 levels at the market close on Monday. While the mid-cap index also joined the gaining streak end over 536 points or 2 per cent lower to 28, 242 levels today.

While Nifty Bank aiding most to the Nifty’s surge, gained around 720 points or 2 per cent higher 36,348 levels, led mainly by Axis Bank and SBI.        

Out of 50 scrips on Nifty50, 43 advanced, 7 declined at the market close on Monday. Shares of Airtel were the biggest gainers and ended up over 5 per cent following the news of board approval to its Rs 21,000 crore fundraising plan. It was followed by Divis Lab and Axis Bank as each surged over 4 per cent at the market close.

Besides, Tata Steel, Titan, Coal India jumped over three per cent, and ONGC, Maruti, Bajaj Finance, SBI ended over 2.5 per cent at the market close on Monday.

On the contrary, Information and technology stocks such as TCS, Wipro, Tech Mahindra and Infosys ended in the red today with marginal fall, while other stocks such as SBI Life, Nestle India and Eicher Motors also ended negative today at the market close. 

All the sectoral indices closed in the green, except for the Nifty IT, which fell by over 0.5 per cent in otherwise record high market on Monday. Nifty Metal, followed by banking and financial stocks along with auto and pharma ended lead the surge in the market at close today.
