After trading range bound for entire session, the domestic equity market slipped in the red on Monday as benchmarks closed with marginal cuts. Extending the weakness for the second consecutive session, the broader Nifty 50 ended near 16,550 and the Sensex dipped nearly 100 points to close near 55,700
In the broader market Nifty midcap closed flat, while small cap index declined nearly one per cent as profit taking hit the broader market.
On sectoral front, Nifty Media, Consumer Durables, Realty and IT declined, while oil & gas, metal, Auto and Private Bank gained
Bajaj Auto, JSW Steel, Cipla, Apollo Hospitals and ONGC gained between 1-4% on the Nifty50. Shree Cements, BPCL, Asian Paints UltraTech Cement and Hero MotoCorp were top losers on the index.
Tata Steel led the Sensex pack, while Asian Paints dragged the 30-share index the most on Monday.
