The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has issued a notification regarding recommendation for Countervailing Duty on aluminium wire and rods in coil form. Recommendation has been made for imposing duty for 5 years on products coming from Malaysia.

Now the duty will be imposed on aluminium wire in the range of 6 to 16 percent which is a good news for Vedanta. In conversation with Anil Singhvi, Managing Editor at Zee Business, Chetan Bhutani, Zee Business Journalist said that the Government of India has issued an official notification and DGTR has recommended Countervailing Duty.

Giving further details he said that the original investigation by the government was on aluminium wire rods of between 7mm to 10mm but when the investigation started it was found that there are several problems in the domestic industry in particular to 9 to 13 mm of wires. So, DGTR expanded the investigation span to 9 mm to 13 mm aluminium wire rods.

"Countervailing Duty has been recommended for 5 years within the range of 6 to 16 percent," Chetan added.

 

He said that now it is almost fixed that the duty will be imposed, and it will be a good news for Vedanta. 

Talking about the final step he said that the Department of Revenue of Ministry of Finance will issue a final notification regarding the imposition of the duty. However, there are chances that the amount may differ as Finance Ministry will also do certain calculations but usually it goes with the recommendation. So, we can see imposition of duty in the range of 6-16 percent in the coming time, he added. 

Anil Singhvi said that a big action can be seen and Vedanta's stock were trading at day's high in the early trade.
