Stock Market Highlights: Sensex extends gain for fifth day, Nifty ends above 17500; Tracxn Technologies surges 14%
Stock Market Highlights: Indian shares ended Thursday's trade with smart gains recovering from the day's lows amid weak global cues and sustained foreign fund outflow. The benchmark 30-share BSE Sensex closed at 59202.90, rising 95.71 points, while the broader 50-share NSE Nifty50 held the crucial 17,500 support, ending at 17,563.95 with a 51.70 points gain. However, Nifty Bank fell 273 points, or 0.68 per cent, to close at 40099.
From the Sensex pack, IndusInd Bank, Titan, Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, HDFC and Maruti were the biggest laggards in early trade. Nestle, Reliance Industries, ITC and Hindustan Unilever were among the winners. Among other Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong were trading lower. Wall Street ended in the negative territory on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Asian markets closed Thursday's trade lower with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index falling more than 3 per cent to its lowest level since May 2009. Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped over 250 points or 0.92 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi dipped 0.86 per cent. Overnight on the Wall Street, the S&P 500 fell 0.67 per cent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.33 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.85 per cent.
