The four-day Chaiti Chhath Puja festival started today, 25 March 2023 with the rituals of ‘nahay-khay’. In Bihar, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal, this auspicious festival is widely celebrated. During the festival, Sun God and Chhathi Maiya are worshipped and devotees give Arghya to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya to seek their blessings.

The first day of the four-day festival will be followed by ‘kharna’ on March 26, ‘sandhya aarghya’ on March 27 and ‘usha aarghya’ on March 28. For the well-being of their children, women observe daylong fasts from sunrise to sunset during which they abstain from eating and drinking anything.

Chhath Puja is celebrated twice in a year. Chaiti Chhath - it is observed in the Chaitra month of Vikram Samvat, and Kartik Chhath - is performed on the sixth day of the Karthika month known as Kartika Shukla Shashti.
