Deloitte takes big step, shuts 4 offices, asks all staff to work from home - no job cuts!

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (Deloitte) will shut down 4 of its 50 British offices in a move to cut down its real estate expenses. The multi-national consulting and advisory firm will retain all the employees from its four offices while granting them permanent work-from-home contracts. Yes, that translates into no job cuts.

On 17 October 2020, Deloitte informed its staff about the shutting down of its four offices in Southampton, Nottingham, Liverpool and Gatwick, a media report said. The staff strength is around 500 in all the four offices put together, the report further said.  

Deloitte’s UK managing partner Stephen Griggs in an email said the pandemic has “fast tracked our future work programme.” 

The company had in April announced 20 per cent pay cut for all partners at its UK businesses in light of the problems and as an alternative to job cuts, the report said.
