West Bengal ASHA secretary Ismat Ara Khatun said to Anadabazar Patrika that the ASHA workers have been made to work during the COVID-19 pandemic totally disregarding their health safety and without proper compensation. They don't even enjoy a financial security. So, they wish to make the Prime Minister aware of their situation by submitting their demands to the West Bengal governor.
At present, there are 54000 ASHA workers in the state. The ASHA workers get Rs 4500 per month and with the additional incentives this amounts to Rs 6000-6500 based on their performance. However, often their incentives are curtailed citing several reasons.
The ASHA workers demand a higher amount of allotment for the scheme. Moreover, the scheme should be brought under the health and family welfare department. A financial security is a necessity for them as well.
The ASHA workers will let the governor know about all their demands in the anticipation for a quick action.
