Indian Railways has one of the biggest railway networks in the world. In order to meet challenges of the today's world, the Indian Railways has been undertaking several reforms to strengthen and modernize this network and improve connectivity. Following the same objective, in one of the major reforms, the railways has conducted trail run of double stack container train in Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.   The move is aimed at increasing efficiency of rail freight transport.

Informing about the same, the Ministry of Railways took to Twitter and posted, “ Indian Railways successfully conducted first trial run of double stack container train operation in Western Dedicated Freight Corridor. The section is fit with double stack train operation & suitable for heavy haul train operation.”

On Monday, Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal also confirmed that Railways successfully conducted the first trial run of double-stack container train operation in the Western Dedicated Freight  

"Another record by Indian Railways as it successfully conducts the first trial run of double-stack container train operation in Western Dedicated Freight Corridor," Goyal had tweeted.

"Railways under PM @NarendraModi ji's inspiring leadership is transforming the way India transports goods," he added sharing a video of the double stack container train.  

In a similar development, the ministry of Railways had earlier said that freight trains have started to attain top speeds of above 90 kmph.  

“In a game changing development, Freight Trains have started to attain top speeds of above 90 kmph on newly inaugurated New Khurja- New Bhaupur section of Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. Faster speeds would result in faster delivery of goods and faster turnaround reducing freight costs,” said the Ministry of Railways on twitter on Monday.
