20 Coaches Vande Bharat Trial Run: The first-ever Vande Bharat train with 20 coaches has started its trial run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. During the initial test, the train reached a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, departing from Ahmedabad at 7 am. Previously, only 16-coach Vande Bharat trains operated between major cities and 8-coach trains between smaller cities. Until now, two 16-coach Vande Bharat trains were running on this route (Ahmedabad and Mumbai).

The 20-coach semi-high-speed train departed from Kalupur railway station at 7 am, arriving at Mumbai Central station by 12:15 pm, after passing through Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Surat. The trial included four additional C coaches, making the total configuration 14C+2E. Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel were deployed at crossings and stations along the route to manage any potential emergencies during the trial.

Vande Bharat Expansion: New trains for every state and Vande Metro coming soon

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw previously informed Parliament that Vande Bharat trains are being introduced in every state without discrimination. He also announced plans for the Vande Metro, designed for regional routes covering distances between 150 to 200 kilometers. The Vande Metro, which is currently under testing, is expected to be launched soon, offering passengers enhanced features.

Nationwide Rollout: 102 Vande Bharat train services now operational across 760 km

In response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that as of July 29, 2024, Indian Railways is operating 102 Vande Bharat train services on a broad gauge electrified network. These services cover distances up to 760 kilometers. When asked if Vande Bharat trains would replace Rajdhani and other superfast trains, the minister clarified that the new services are being introduced without discontinuing any existing train services.
