September 18 Train Track Incident: Railway authorities detect expired fog detonators, say investigations underway
Indian Railways authorities found expired fog detonators at the train track in an incident reported to have taken place on September 18. Railways is investigating as to who used them and under what circumstances, officials said.
An accident of an alleged attempt to derail a train was averted at Sagphata in the Burhanpur district in Madhya Pradesh on September 18 when the locomotive pilot noticed some noise from the track. The pilot stopped the train immediately and informed the station master upon which rescue teams along with railway and police officials reached the site.
The train was deployed on special duty for the Indian Army. The region comes under the jurisdiction of the Nepanagar Assembly.
Ten expired fog detonators were detected at the spot. These are special devices used regularly by the Railways to alert the loco pilot by creating a specific sound signal.
However, ongoing investigations showed that the detonators found at the site were not placed by the Indian Railways.
Sources said that miscreants must have stolen the Railways equipment and placed it at the site.
"These were fog detonators. These were expired ones... Railways is investigating as to who used them and under what circumstances," Railways said.
