More than 100 trains were impacted on the Mumbai-Delhi railway line on Friday with authorities anticipating two more days to restore normal operations after an Indian Railways goods train was reported to have derailed on the main line near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The incident took place around 8 pm on that day when 26 wagons of the train left the track between Vrindavan Road and Ajhai stations, according to sources.

The incident forced the authorities to cancel 34 trains, partially cancel eight others, and reroute more than 60 trains, they said.

The Delhi-Mumbai railway route operates on four lines, three of which were damaged due to the incident.

The flow of ongoing railway traffic in the area was restored using the fourth line on Wednesday.

All the trains rolling on the route are running turn-by-turn on the fourth down-line, according to the sources.

A lack of operational lines has reduced the speed of several major trains crossing the region including Rajdhani Express.

According to railway authorities, the accident damaged significant portions of the main up- and down-lines at the site where new tracks are being installed.

The accident has spoiled 1,820 tonnes of coal, which has been contaminated by dirt and debris.

The dry fuel is learned to have been loaded into the goods carrier from Surajpur Road on the Chhattisgarh Bilaspur railway section for delivery to the Suratgarh thermal power plant in Rajasthan.
