The services will begin from August 19, said the Central Railway of Mumbai division in a notification on Tuesday.

The new AC local trains will replace the existing non-AC locals. With this, the count of AC local train services on Central Railway (CR) will rise to 66.

The total number of 1,810 suburban services in the Mumbai division will remain unchanged, which is considered to be the lifeline for over 40 lakh passengers daily.

At present, around 56 AC local services are being operated by CR on weekdays. These new AC local train services will mainly be operational for Badlapur, Thane and Kalyan commuters.

Out of these 10 services, one will run in the morning peak hours and one in the evening. These AC locals will not run-on Sundays and nominated holidays said the notification.

The decision of increasing AC local trains in Mumbai was taken amid the sharp rise in the passengers travelling on these trains since May 5 when the Ministry of Railways slashed the prices of tickets for AC local trains by almost 50 per cent.

The services with * will run on Sundays/Nominated holidays as non-AC as per the existing schedule.
