Bandra railway station stampede leaves several people injured

Mumbai Bandra Terminus Railway Station Stampede News Update: Several people were reported to have been rushed to a hospital nearby after sustaining injuries in a reported stampede at Platform 1 of the Bandra Terminus railway station—one of the five railway terminus within Greater Mumbai—on Sunday, October 27. The incident took place when an unusual rush of people faced difficulties in moving about at the platform. 

A weekly train to Gorakhpur was slowing down at the Bandra Terminus station around 2:45 am when a few passengers tried boarding it impatiently, according to sources. The train (22921) was scheduled to start at 5:10 am on Sunday. 

The rush of people headed to board the train created a havoc at the platform, the sources said.

The train comprised 22 general bogeys, according to sources. 

Around 2,500 people gathered at the platform, which has a capacity of 1,000-1,500 people. 

RPF, GRP and Homeguard personnel on duty rushed to the site and transferred the injured people to Bhaba Hospital. 

All the impacted passengers were learned to be stable, according to the doctors. 

Indian Railways authorities urged the passengers to refrain from the dangerous act of boarding moving trains. 

Sunday's incident comes at a time when the Railways has announced a host of additional special trains in different parts of the country to cater to potential additional traffic during the Diwali and Chhath festivals.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation took to microblogging site X (formerly Twitter) to state that the injured passengers were shifted to a hospital. BMC, the governing civic body of Mumbai, is the richest municipal corporation of the country. 

Wish the reel minister was a rail minister for once. The incident at Bandra only reflects how incapable the current Railways Minister is.
