What document/I-Card is required to book e-Ticket?
You are not required to give any input of the photo identity card details of any of the passengers while booking the ticket. However you will have to carry and show one of following identity card of any of the passengers in original while travelling.

The following photo identity cards are considered valid.
Passport, Voter photo identity card issued by Election Commission of India, Driving Licence issued by RTO, Pan Card issued by Income Tax Department, Photo Identity card having serial number issued by Central / State Government, Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized School/College for their students, Nationalized Bank Passbook with photographs, Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photograph, Unique Identification Card "Aadhaar”, m-Aadhaar, e-Aadhaar, Photo identity cards having serial number issued by public sector Undertakings of State/Central, Government, District Administrations, Municipal bodies and Panchayat Administrations, Passenger showing the Aadhaar/Driving Licence from the “Issued Document” section by logging into his/her DigiLocker account considered as valid proof of identity (Documents uploaded by the user i.e. the document in “Uploaded Document” section will not be considered as a valid proof of identity).
How to book e-ticket?
1. Go to the official website of IRCTC or open the app and register as an individual.
2. Login by entering your User name and Password and provide your desired From - To station, Date of Journey and Class of travel. In case, you do not have any fixed date of journey, select “Flexible with Date” option.
3. To find train list, click on "Search" option. The next page displays the list of trains available for the selected route. To select the train from the train list, click on the type of class available in the selected train.
4. To book e-ticket in the selected train, click on “Book Now” button.
5. Passenger Reservation Page will appear; check whether the train name, station names, class and journey date displayed on the page are same as desired by you.
6. Enter the Name of the Passengers, Age, Gender, Berth Preference etc. details for each passenger.
7. After providing correct details, click on “Continue” button. To change any details related to Train, Class, Quota etc. “Back” button may be used. The ticket details, Total fare (including GST & Convenience Fee) and availability of berths at the particular time appear on the screen.
8. To change any details related to Passengers, Back button may be used.
9. After checking all details, click on Continue button for Payment process. All payment options are grouped under specific categories (viz. Credit cards, Net banking, Wallets and Multiple payment service etc.)
10. After successful payment and booking of accommodations, Ticket Confirmation Page will appear.
How to cancel e-ticket and get the refund?
E-Tickets (Reservations) can be cancelled only through IRCTC eTicketing website. To cancel your e-ticket log on to www.irctc.co.in and go to My Account then My Transactions then Booked Ticket History link and select the ticket to be cancelled.
Then initiate the cancellation by selecting the passengers to be cancelled. Cancellation would be confirmed online and the refund would be credited back to the account used for booking as for normal Internet tickets.
If there is any partial cancellation of ticket, please ensure that the modified ticket ERS (Electronic Reservation Slip) is printed separately as for the original ticket.
