Western Railway Latest News: There has been a major impetus to enhance the freight traffic for the Indian Railways. There has been an upgrade for the track infrastructure for Western Railway and this in turn will enable the transportation of goods through the high-capacity wagons. This will also help in the generation of additional revenue.

The Western Railway has recently tweeted about this upgradation in the track infrastructure from its official Twitter handle. The tweet from the Western Railway said, "Western Railway has upgraded the track infrastructure which will enable transportation of goods through high-capacity wagons. It will not only help in increasing the loading but also decrease the turn-around time of wagons."

 

The press release issued by Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, various measures had been adopted in order to increase the revenue from freight traffic. Now, in this direction, the Western Railway has upgraded 6111.74 TKMs of its goods train plying routes. Furthermore, the Western Railway has upgraded the capacity wagons which will permit more loading. 

According to the release, this upgradation further involves improvement in track structures from 52 kg to 60 kg. Accordingly, the railways will be able to utilise the maximum capacity of the existing wagons by approximately 10 tonnes and will be able to transport more quantity of goods. 

It can be said that this will not only help in increase of loading but will also help in generating additional revenue and decrease in the turn-around time pf wagons/MT and improve the efficiency in the system. 

Incidentally, the Western Railway has recently tweeted about its significant achievement about its increase in the revenue. There has been a significant increase in the revenue of Western Railway, and it has crossed Rs 3000 crore. This increase has been 63 per cent more as compared to the corresponding period last year. 

The press release from Thakur said that the Western Railways, in the financial year, 2021-22 recorded revenue of Rs 3106 crore. This total revenue includes goods revenue of Rs 2527 crore and passenger revenue of Rs 378 crore. The revenue received through other coaching is Rs 104 crore and sundry revenue of Rs 97 crore. It has to be noted that the revenue has been 63 per cent more than last year's revenue in the corresponding period.
