Indian Railways annual results: Railways revenue jumps 25% to record Rs 2.4 lakh crore in 2022-23
Indian Railways reported growth of nearly 15 per cent in freight revenue to Rs 1.62 lakh crore. There was a huge jump in passenger revenue, which registered an all-time high growth of 61 per cent to Rs 63,300 crore.
Indian Railways Annual Results: Indian Railways clocked a record revenue of Rs. 2.4 lakh crore for the financial year 2022-23, which ended on March 31, 2023. That marked growth of 25 per cent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. The Railways also said it recorded growth of nearly 15 per cent in freight revenue, which leapfrogged to Rs 1.62 lakh crore.
There was a huge jump in passenger revenues, which soared to an all-time high growth of 61 per cent to reach Rs 63,300 crore, up from Rs39,214 crore revenue in 2021-22.
The Railways further said that its operating ratio of 98.14 per cent was well within the revised estimates.
"After meeting all revenue expenditure, Railways generated Rs 3,200 crore for capital investment from its internal resources (Rs 700 crore for DRF, Rs 1,000 crore for DF and Rs 1,516.72 crore for RRSK)," the Railways said in a press release.
The Railways earned Rs 5,951 crore as other coaching revenue in 2022-23 compared to Rs 4,899 crore it achieved in 2021-22, a 21 per cent jump from last financial year.
Sundries revenue stood at Rs 8440 crore in FY 22-23 compared to Rs 6067 crore in 2021-22. During 2022-23, gross revenue stood at Rs 2,39,803 crore compared to Rs 1,91,278 crore in 2021-22.
Also, gross traffic receipts stood at Rs 2,39,750 crore compared to Rs 1,91,206 crore in 2021-22.
The total railway receipts in 22-23 are worth Rs 2,39,892 crore compared to Rs 1,91,367 crore in 2021-22.
The Railways' total expenditure during 22-23 is Rs 2,37,375 crore compared to Rs 2,06,391 crore in 2021-22.
