On Monday as well, unidentified people pelted stones at the train, damaging the window panes.

The Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30.

“This is the second time in two days that stones were pelted at the Vande Bharat Express. No passengers were injured. We have already initiated a probe,” said a senior official of the Northeast Frontier Railway, according to a PTI report.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Amrita Rathod shared a video of a broken window in a Tweet and said, “Mob pelted stones at Vande Bharat Express within 2 days of its flagging off from Bengal. Why is there so much hate for Vande Bharat?”

On Monday, a similar incident took place when the glass pane on a door of a coach suffered cracks owing to stone pelting after the Vande Bharat express train flagged off from New Jalpaiguri. 

While an FIR has been lodged over the incidents, an awareness campaign has also been started to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, the official said.

After the flag off PM Modi had asserted that the Union government is transforming the country's railway infrastructure by making record investments.

The Prime Minister who also launched four railway projects for West Bengal and laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the New Jalpaiguri railway station, pointed out that railway stations, including New Jalpaiguri, are being developed on the lines of airports.

In all the railway projects inaugurated by the PM for West Bengal are estimated to be worth more than Rs 5,000 crore.
