As the festival of colours approaches, India Railways is expected to run 571 Holi special trains from different parts of the country to clear the anticipated rush during the festive season. This year, Holi will be observed on March 25, Monday.
 
During the Holi rush period, 1098 Special trains (TOD- Train On Demand) are available, 52 per cent more than the 720 special trains during last year. This will help clear the Holi rush of an additional 30 lakh passengers.
 
Further, the Railway will provide an additional 11 unreserved rakes in major cities like Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Patna, among others, to meet the last-minute rush of passengers travelling during the Holi festival.
 
Notably, around 1,400 regular trains per day are already being run for clearing rush in different parts of the country, including in UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Delhi, MP, etc.
 
The railway will also provide round-the-clock monitoring at apex levels and an additional deployment of security for crowd management.
 
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railways announced on Thursday, March 22, that it would run 540 train services to clear the rush of passengers during the ongoing Holi festive season. Trains have been planned to connect major destinations across the country on railway routes like Delhi-Patna, Delhi-Bhagalpur, Delhi-Muzaffarpur, Delhi-Saharsa, Gorakhpur-Mumbai, Kolkata-Puri, Guwahati-Ranchi, New Delhi-Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Jaipur-Bandra Terminus, Pune-Danapur, Durg-Patna, Barauni-Surat, etc.
