In order to achieve net zero carbon emission, Indian Railways is carrying out electrification, improving energy efficiency of locomotives & trains and fixed installations, green certification for installations/stations, fitting bio toilets in coaches and switching to renewable sources of energy aggressively.

It is expected that this initiative of Indian Railways is likely to get further shot in the arm with the provisions in the Indian Railways. ICICI Direct has pegged Railway Budget 2021 to be around whopping Rs 1.71 lakh crore despite Covid 19 challenges.

Infirming about this new development, Indian Railways took to twitter and wrote, " Indian Railways commissioned PASUMAI 2.0, a Battery-cum-AC operated dual mode locomotive at Arakkonam Loco Shed in Southern Railway. Another significant step towards Green Railways as it will reduce pollution and conserve environment."

Railways infrastructure is set to get a boost in the upcoming budget with various rating agencies claiming a major budget allocation for the Indian Railways.

This will also help the railways to achieve its ambitious target to become ‘Green Railways’ by 2030 — starting by the electrification of 7,000 RKM in the current fiscal year.
