Indian Railways has unveiled country's first high-speed RRTS train today. It's a step toward modernising India's railway system. The new RRTS train is a completely new design of train whose trial phase to be done by the end of this year.
The new train is expected to have a total of six coaches, with the capacity to expand to nine in the future. One of the six coaches is dedicated entirely to offer a luxury experience for passengers, with amenities such as Wi-Fi, overhead luggage rack, mobile/laptop charging ports, enough leg room, available onboard.
The train's six coaches will feature a total of 407 seats. The train has a capacity of 1500 passengers at a time. It's worth noting that the train's interior has been built to resemble that of an aeroplane.
The design of the train also takes into account the speed of the train. It has the ability to travel at three times the speed of a metro. According to the figures, the train travels at a speed of 100 km/hr on average and 160 km/hr at maximum speed.
The train's corridor is expected to be 82.15 kilometres long, with elevated and underground lengths of 70.0 kilometres (Delhi: 9.22 kilometres; UP: 60.57 kilometres) and 12.0 kilometres (Delhi: 4.08 kilometres; UP: 8.08 kilometres) respectively.
Passengers will be seated in transverse 2x2 chairs. It will also include an optimised aisle width with grab handles and rails for standing passengers.
It also has wide safety glass windows that are double glazed and tempered, providing passengers with a panoramic view of the outside. Facilities such as CCTV, fire and smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and door indicators are also provided.
The train is expected to be traversing the tracks by March 2023, covering five stations between Sahibabad, in Ghaziabad District of Uttar Pradesh to Duhai in Uttar Pradesh.
