Siliguri: The Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express narrowly avoided a derailment near Sahudangi, just two and a half kilometers from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station, thanks to the vigilance of the guard of an oil tanker. The incident, which occurred on the NJP-ABFC automated section, caused panic among the passengers aboard the Rajdhani Express.
According to sources, the incident was caused by a signal failure in the automatic block system. This system, which operates with signals placed every kilometer, ensures that trains stop in sequence when one train halts unexpectedly. In this case, a goods train traveling ahead of the Rajdhani Express had to stop due to a fault in its locomotive. As a result, the Rajdhani Express also had to halt behind it.
Upon receiving the news, railway officials promptly reached the scene to assess the situation. The Indian Railways has since ordered an inquiry into the entire incident to determine the exact cause and prevent any future occurrences.
In response to the incident, the Railway Ministry clarified that proper rules and procedures were followed during the event and emphasized that no untoward incident occurred as a result of the signal failure. The ministry reassured passengers that safety remains a top priority for Indian Railways.
