Bullet Train India: Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announces when and where it will start running

Bullet Train: Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that India's first bullet train will be on track in 2026. The bullet train will run in one section from Surat. The Railway Minister said the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project will prove to be a corridor of economic prosperity, transforming towns and cities along the route and becoming a learning experience for future initiatives.
 
The Minister mentioned Centre is working on the 508-km-long Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR project, which is expected to be flagged off in 2026.
 
The Railway Minister also shared a video of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad 'Bullet Train' corridor. With the commencement of this corridor, the time taken to cover the distance of 508 kilometres between the two cities will be reduced to just 2 hours.
 

Bullet Train: Seven corridors
 

There are seven corridors currently under consideration— Delhi-Varanasi (813 km), Delhi-Ahmedabad (878 km), Mumbai-Nagpur (765 km), Mumbai-Hyderabad (671 km), Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru (435 km), Delhi-Chandigarh-Amritsar (459 km), and Varanasi-Howrah (760 km). 
 
The Railway Minister said three things have helped fast-track the upgrading of Indian Railways' technology: increased funding for Indian Railways, a systematic plan for future maintenance of Railway technology, and depoliticising Indian Railways.

 
Bullet Train: Specification

• The maximum speed of the bullet train is expected to be 320 km per hour.
• The corridor will feature a slab track system; this technology will be used for the first time in India.
• Twenty-four bridges and seven mountain tunnels are being built for the bullet train route.
• There will also be a 7-km-long undersea tunnel in the corridor.
