Western Command Chief welcomes SC order on permanent commission for women
Commanding-in-chief of Western Command Lieutenant General RP Singh welcomed Supreme Court’s order on permanent commission for women. “Indian Army is very big, which includes combat element, combat support elements and service elements. In selected areas, women officers are being given permanent commission. This is a matter of happiness,” said Western Command Chief, Lieutenant General RP Singh. But the time is not right to include them in combat roles, the GOC-in-Chief said further. On Feb 17, Apex court had ruled that women should be considered for command roles and that all women officers are entitled to permanent commission.
