India-Canada Visa Tensions Ease: E-Visa Services for Canadians Resumed

In a sign of thawing relations between India and Canada, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar announced on November 22 that the country has resumed issuing e-visas to Canadian citizens. The suspension of e-visa services was imposed in September 2023 due to security concerns related to the treatment of Indian diplomats in Canada. Jaishankar stated that the decision to resume e-visas was made following an improvement in the security situation and a recognition of the importance of maintaining strong ties between the two countries. The resumption of e-visas is expected to facilitate travel and business exchanges between India and Canada.
