India 360: Flour prices touch 12-year high as wheat procurement to touch 15-year low
The impact of inflation on the common man has increased so much that even eating bread is becoming difficult. Despite the bumper production of wheat, the retail price of flour in the country is currently at a 12-year high. Within a year, the price of flour has increased by 9.15 percent. These figures have been released by the government itself. The Department of Civil Supplies, which comes under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, released the data and said that on May 7, the average retail price of wheat flour across the country was Rs 32.78 per kg. This is 9.15 per cent more than last year. In the same period last year, this price was Rs 30.03 per kg. Sources say that the continuous jump in the retail price of flour is coming due to the rising prices of wheat. The Russia-Ukraine war has affected the supply and production of wheat worldwide. Simultaneously, the demand for Indian wheat is increasing in the global market. Apart from this, the cost of freight is also increasing due to expensive diesel, whose direct effect is visible on the price of flour. The retail inflation rate of wheat flour reached 7.77 percent in March, which is the highest since March 2017. Then the retail price index of flour was 7.62 percent.
