India 360: District Collectors Will Have To Explain Future Road Accidents Caused By Potholes: Kerala High Court

According to a report by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, road accidents are increasing due to potholes in monsoon. In 2013-2017, 14,926 people died due to potholes. In 2018-2020, 5,000 lives were lost due to potholes. In 2018, 2,015 people lost their lives due to potholes. 2,140 died in 2019 and 1,471 in 2020. The Kerala High Court expressed displeasure over the potholes on the road, calling it a man-made disaster as per the Disaster Management Act. The court ordered that the District Magistrate of that district will have to come to the court and give an explanation on any accident due to potholes on the road ahead.
