Stock markets on Friday were trading in red within 15 minutes of opening, While the BSE Sensex today opened in green at 31296.28, marginally up from the Thursday close at 31,122.89, it soon went down. At 9:27 am Sensex was trading at 31,037.40. Meanwhile, broader market Nifty 50 opened marginally down. At 9:27 Nifty 50 was trading at 9,110.50, lower by 0.35 per cent or over 32 points from the Thursday close.

The top gainers in the opening trade on BSE Sensex were ONGC, NTPC, HDFC, Tata Steel and Nestle India while the top losers were Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC, HCL Technologies, Maruti Suzuki and ICICI Bank.Around 30 per cent stock were trading in green while the remaining in red.

Meanwhile, on the broader Nifty 50 index the top gainers at the time of opening were ONGC, Hindalco industries, Britannia Industries, Tata Steel and JSW Steel. Top loser on Nifty-50 were Bharti Infratel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Motors, HCL Technologies and ITC.

Today, the rupee was trading at Rs 75.5175 per USD.

Wall Street surged on Thursday as investors weighed the prospect of economic recovery against bellicose remarks from President Donald Trump regarding U.S.-China trade and a whistleblower`s dire warnings about the U.S. response to the coronavirus pandemic. In commodity markets, oil prices settled higher on Thursday after the International Energy Agency (IEA) forecast lower global stockpiles in the second half of 2020, although worries remain that a second surge in coronavirus infections could occur in coming months. Brent crude futures settled up USD 1.94, or 6.7 per cent, to  USD 31.13 a barrel.
