Indian Railways achievements: 7 amazing ways you benefitted
The Indian Railways that witnessed a 360-degree transformation during the last 5 years or so. Whether its electrification of rail routes, indigenously developing fastest moving railway engines, converting diesel locomotive engines to electric engines as the Varanasi DLW, first semi-high speed train 'Vande Mataram Express' or connecting two areas by developing rail-cum-river bridges like Bogibil bridge in Assam, the Indian Railways has notched up a umber of standout achievements. We highlight here 10 key ways in which Indian Railways has benefitted you:
Indian Railways electrification drive
100% electrification of the Indian Railways broad gauge routes. In the year 2017-18, a total of 4,087 kms of the broad gauge routes have been electrified, which is highest till date in the history of the Indian Railways. Needless to say, this is a great blessing for passengers as it ensures a smooth journey. Image source: Reuters

Eco-friendly at low-cost engine manufacturing by Indian Railways
In a global first, the DLW (Diesel Locomotive Works) at Varanasi successfully converted the diesel engines into high horsepower electric engines that can help control environmental pollution caused by the diesel engines. interestingly, all these conversions would help Indian Railways to save money as well because the new electric engine manufacturing would cost lesser than the cost of diesel engine manufactured earlier. Enhancing the efficiency of Indian Railways goods trains
To depart goods at a lesser time, it was ensured that not just the Indian Railways passenger trains but the goods train engines too should be developed in such a way that it can reach its destination in lesser time. In this regard, for goods trains service, 9000 HP capacity engines were developed to ensure higher efficiency of the goods trains. Image source: Reuters
Indian Railways Focus on indigenous technology
To avoid taking outside support in developing high-speed trains, the government of India made sure that technology is completely indigenous. And the end product of this exercise came out in the name of 'Vande Mataram Express' high-speed train, which has been hitting the headlines for quite a few times. Indian Railways boosts connectivity
Indian Railways, to increase rail connectivity in remote areas of the country, tried all possible ways, including building new railway lines to connecting two points trough railway bridges so that a train can run through both destinations. Recently launched Bogibil rail cum road bridge in Assam is a shining example of it. Image source: Reuters
