The project has been given the green signal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Office and the Ministry has been directed to see if the new mechanism can be developed and could be made user friendly.

Currently, railway tickets booked from the train stations don't mention the name of the traveller. It only carries the age and the sex of the passenger. This gives an opportunity for travellers to use tickets that don't belong to them.

The move is being considered to check this fake travelling.

The railway ministry has been considering the move for a long time now. According to the Aadhar Card UID portal, the government was planning to implement the scheme in 2014.
