In the coming days, the Parle Agro, the maker of Frooti could either raise cost of the Rs 10 tetra pack or discontinue the product. The danger looms on other drinks as well in the same price bracket. Zee Business's special report on why the company is compelled to take such a step.

Single-use plastic is going to be banned in the country from July 1, 2022. In such a situation, companies making soft drinks have started worrying about increasing the price of Rs 10 pack or discontinuing it.

Soft and juice drinks like Frooti, Tropicana, Slice, Real, and Maaza are sold by companies in tetra packs for Rs 10. Along with these, straw is also given to the customers to drink the juice. But now that plastic is going to be banned, then this straw can also be banned.

Recently, Parle Agro, a beverage company that owns popular brands such as Frooti and Appy, has urged the government to extend the deadline for the ban on plastic straws by 6 months. "While Parle Agro endorses the government-led ban on the use of plastic straws, our plea is to postpone the implementation of the injunction by six months," the company said in a statement.

"Packaging companies will need to invest in the right infrastructure to accommodate the changes which will require time to ensure the alternative is appropriate and cost-effective, especially during inflationary times," the statement said, adding, "Currently, there is no local manufacturer who can accommodate the demand."
