Most are familiar with the high profile richest Indians like Ambanis, Tatas, Mahindras, Birlas and more, but who is the wealthiest woman in India? That is something that does not hit too many headlines. Shedding some light on this space is Hurun Rich list. The ranking it released says that the lady ranked as No. 1 in India has a net worth of over Rs 43,400 crore! She belongs to the Godrej family. These women are from the wealthiest business houses in the country, with a few exceptions like Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, who is a self-made billionaire. The Hurun Global ranking recognises India's leading women entrepreneurs, businesswomen, investors and inheritors.

According to Hurun Global Rich List, Smitha Crishna, the third generation heir of the Godrej empire, is the richest Indian woman with net worth of Rs 43,400 crore. The total wealth of each woman featured in the top 100 list exceeds Rs 1,000 crore, while their average income is around Rs 5,000 crore. 

Following Smitha is HCL CEO and Executive Director Roshni Nadar, whose net worth is around Rs 32,800 crore. She is the daughter of the Indian billionaire Shiv Nadar. 

On the third spot is Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. She is the only self-made woman billionaire who made it to the top 100. She is the richest self-made female entrepreneur from India. Shaw is globally ranked 671 with a wealth of Rs 25,100 cr (US$3.5bn). 

According to the survey, the total wealth of these three women, Smitha Crishna, Roshni Nadar and Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, which is over Rs 1,00,000 crore, is more than the GDP of 68 countries in the world.

The fourth spot has been bagged by Kiran Nadar of HCL with a net worth of Rs 21,700 crore. While Manju D Gupta of Lupin is at fifth spot with a net worth of Rs 20,500.

On sixth spot is Leena Tewari of USV with a net worth of Rs 12,300 crore. While Vinod Gupta of Havells India and Jayshree Ullal of Arista Network was at 7th and 8th position with a networth of Rs 9,900 and 9,800 crore respectively. 

9th place was bagged by Nilima Motaparti of Divi's Lab with a total net worth of Rs 8,800 crore as per the Hurun Global Rich List 2019. 

Meanwhile, on number 10 is Anu Aga, Ex-chairperson of Thermax, whose total wealth is Rs 8,500 crore. 

The report notes that there is a change happening with more and more women taking advantage of increasing opportunities to become active participants in business. The global list acknowledges the Indian women's role in creating wealth in one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
